Independent Research Assistant

$60.00

Independent research support for writers, students, educators, professionals, organizations, and community groups who need help finding, organizing, and making sense of information for a project. This service is designed for people who need thoughtful research support but may not have the time, training, or access to do the research on their own.

I can help with online research, source gathering, background research, literature searches, historical research, policy research, issue briefs, annotated bibliographies, source summaries, research memos, and project planning. This service can support academic projects, public history projects, nonprofit work, grant proposals, community research, professional writing, creative projects, presentations, and organizational reports.

Online Research
$60/hour

Online research may include finding scholarly sources, newspaper articles, reports, public records, archival materials available online, data sources, organizational information, and other digital materials relevant to your project. I can also help organize sources, summarize findings, and prepare research notes that make the material easier to use.

Archival, Interview, and Field Research
$180/hour plus travel expenses billed through Venmo

For projects that require in-person work, I can conduct archival research, visit local collections, review physical records, conduct interviews, or facilitate focus groups. This rate applies to research that requires travel, preparation, scheduling, documentation, note-taking, and careful handling of materials or participant responses.

Depending on the project, support may include:

  • Online source gathering

  • Scholarly and historical research

  • Newspaper and archival database searches

  • Public records and policy research

  • Annotated bibliographies

  • Research memos and source summaries

  • Archival research

  • In-person document review

  • Oral history interviews

  • Professional interviews

  • Focus groups

  • Community research

  • Presentation or report research

  • Grant proposal background research

The goal is to help you move from scattered questions or incomplete information to a clearer, better supported project. Whether you need a few strong sources, a deeper research memo, archival materials, or original interview-based research, I can help gather and organize the information you need.
